Shading & Glazing Stain
(M504 series) Shading & Glazing Stain has a specialized formula of highly concentrated colorants and topcoat friendly resins (to ensure good adhesion between the sealing and finishing coats) in a medium viscosity base. This formula allows the finisher to create unique toning and highlighting effects over almost any sealed surface. Shading & Glazing Stains may be intermixed to adjust the color tone. Oil Colors may be mixed & blended into Shading & Glazing Stain to create custom colors. The Glazing Stain is compatible with almost any type of lacquer, varnish, or urethane finish. This is a traditional Oil / Solvent based glaze.
Use the Clear Glaze Base to extend or lighten the color of the Shading & Glazing Stains.
Directions: Surface should be sealed with a sanding sealer or washcoat and sanded with 280 – 320 grit sandpaper before applying Glaze. Apply glaze liberally to the sealed surface using a glazing brush or rag, and allow it to set for a short period of time. Wipe to desired effect and color by removing excess glaze. Use a glazing brush to blend out harsh lines and achieve the desired effect.
For Highlighting: Use a cloth or 4/0 steel wool to remove additional Glaze and to accent specific grain patterns after wiping the surface to a uniform color. For best results, use a glazing brush to blend out and soften harsh glaze lines to achieve the desired effect.
Caution: leaving too heavy a coat of Glaze may cause poor intercoat adhesion. This Glazing Stain has good open time and can be recoated within 1 – 2 hours.
Note: For best results and to avoid wrinkling and other finish related problems, Glazes must be top-coated within 6 hours of application. • • Application: Brush, Sponge or Rag. • • Clean Up: Paint Thinner or Mineral Spirits.
