Burn-In
Sticks
For Furniture and fine wood finishes
A permanent, durable filler for finished wood and other hard surfaces. Available in the most popular wood shades and transparent tones.
Burn-In Procedure
The following directions pertain to the repair of defects on finished or partly finished surfaces; these are generally classified as chips, holes, or indentations. These types of defects must be filled. The most generally used product employed to fill indentations on finished surfaces is known as a burn-in stick.
Burn-in Sticks are available in solid wood shades and colors, which are used where both the finish and stain are missing. The transparent sticks are used to refill shallow indentations where the original shade of the finish remains but is no longer level.
H. Behlen Master Burn-in Sticks take the place of other shellac or lacquer sticks. Because of its superior qualities, it will not pull out or shrink should any padding finish, lacquer, varnish, or other finishing agent be applied over it.
Another distinct advantage of the H. Behlen Burn-in Stick is the procedure of leveling excessive material without damaging the surrounding finish.
Materials Required:
1. Burn-in knife.
2. Burn-in Sticks.
3. 400A Wet or Dry Paper.
4. Sanding Block 4x2x1 inch.
5. Wool-Lube™.
6. Burn-in Balm™.
7. Graining Pen.

2. Behlen Clear Aerosols
PROCEDURE:
1. Clean the repair area with Behlen Dewaxer.
2. Select the proper color stick. (choose the lightest Burn-In Stick which matches the damage’s background color. Be careful to get a good match!)
3. Sand the area gently to remove any splinters and rough areas, and to remove the ridge around the damage.

4. Using a Burn-in Knife, melt the Burn-in Stick (fig. 1) and allow melted stick to flow into the damaged area (fig. 2) until it is slightly overfilled (fig.4A).
5. Protect the existing finish by applying Burn-In Balm to the surrounding area (fig. 3).
6. Pulling the Burn-In Knife as shown in fig. 4B, Level the Burn-In Stick with flat strokes. Always wipe the knife clean between strokes.
7. Once repair is level, wipe blade and surface clean.
8. Apply Master Wool-Lube to 400A Wet or Dry sandpaper, wrapped around the sanding block (fig. 5).
9. Gently sand the repair in the direction of the grain (fig. 6). (Be careful not to cut into the wood color.)
10. After a few strokes, stop sanding and determine if repair is level. Repeat steps 8, 9 and 10 until level.
11. Clean the repair area with De-Waxer and allow to dry.
12. (Optional) Dry sand with 400A Wet or Dry sandpaper 3 to 5 light strokes.
13. If grain must be added, gently connect missing grain lines with the H. Behlen Master Graining Pen or Graining Liquid and Furniture Powders.
14. Restore the finish with a H. Behlen clear aerosol, of corresponding sheen.
